Journal Entry:
"Pretty decent night sleep—dreams but no recall. H/L drink, doses. Get a lot of writing today, force myself, limit research, I still want to do it but I have to learn the appeal process. Knowledge is power. Got what I think is a cool Null/short story/PDFU idea*.
LUNCH: Fabulous Fish Friday, course the alt beans weren't much better. Carrots (I ate), roll and orange into reserve.
The after lunch entertainment was the ever-popular cell phone search where we all chill in our CubiCells. The warning I got earlier was definitely accurate and really has me thinking.
I have to refocus my letter to A. King to make it mostly about Orphan Works and a Congress has failed to fix it twice.
Big goings on, sent to our CubiCells directly after lunch. A shakedown of the common areas. Rumor has it we've lost everything: No TV, no outside rec, no phones, no email, no microwave. Sigh. I’m not feeling hungry for the next 3 meals. Passed on ck fried rice, things might get interesting 24 hours from now. We’ll see. Obviously, no 'You’re in my seat'."
The "Blood on the Sun" / Null Pitch (Page 2)
"*Null/Short Story/PDFU-related Idea—Question: When does the Mummy go into Public Domain? Research this: Dracula's real life, Ancient Astronauts, The discovery of mummies, exhibits that toured America. The Pyramids.
Write the bones of the story which I’m calling 'Blood on the Sun'—Some time in the 1920s Dracula under the name of Victor Torrenson, is a very successful investor and up and coming real estate mogul. After 'Victor' accidentally turns his partner's young wife into a vampire, he allows the woman to kill her husband. Thus Victor inherits the whole company and moves to Europe. Except she doesn't die and he is forced to kill the creature that was once his wife. The 'meat' of the story is when the partner catches up to Dracula in Europe(?), while he's financing a tour of some Ancient Egypt artifacts. The partner befriends a beautiful woman and tries to warn her of Dracula. She doesn't care she is there on business, and the business is to steal an Ancient beetle brooch. The partner says he will help if she helps him kill Dracula. She agrees. With her bodyguard RA, they steal the brooch, but then betray the partner to Dracula. In describing the vampire, the woman becomes fascinated by him, and tells him to join them. That trying to conquer Earth is pointless, it's a mudball. There are ripe worlds for the taking. The three of them have this discussion on the beach and a ship comes out of the water (UFO), and takes them into space. The End(?)(?)(?) ———> NULL"
Notes for Day 94 (Four Years Later)
The Great Shakedown: While it appeared the biggest event was the major shakedown that stripped us of everything—TVs, computers, outside rec—the chaos was just the backdrop. Rumors were swirling about a major snitch in camp (which was true) and a planned hunger strike (also true, but short-lived).
Escaping into the Null: In retrospect, the most important thing to me was my Dracula PD/Null story idea. I eventually wrote most of that story. Even with the noise of shakedowns and snitches, these rough ideas were coming "fast and furious". I was living in my own little world in the Null, and I loved it—it was my sanctuary from the prison reality.
Knowledge is Power: I was forcing myself to limit creative research to focus on the appeal process. I knew then what I know now: that a "jailhouse lawyer" has to prioritize legal literacy to survive a system designed to keep him passive.
Refocusing the Advocacy: My decision to pivot the Angus King letter away from general complaints and specifically toward Orphan Works shows my maturity as an advocate. I was learning to frame my personal fight as a matter of public policy and legislative failure.
