Journal Entry:
"Slept a little better, well, slept anyway. No sciatic nerve pain, or very little. Still not quite with it, but I’ll get there eventually. Sent emails to Mom and MyT.. Come up with a debarment plan, we’ll see. I’ll develop it some. Not a lot of time, but some. Give me something to do. Really need to get into shape, walk more, workout more before snow falls. Wrote a little, still having focus trouble.
BRUNCH: Pancakes, scrambled eggs, potato wedges, orange.
Worked full shift, J.K. came and helped. This cold keeps going up and down. Seems to get better then it doesn’t. I don’t think it’s the C-word [COVID], but could be.
SUPPER: Chicken à la King (looked good, but was tasteless), peas fresh from the can.
Softball again, I kept score this time. Not feeling up to it. We had less players due to illness—not a good sign. The later it gets the less well I feel. E. keeps coming by and giving me shit about having the virus, but he keeps coming by. It’s his own fault if he gets it, that’s if I do have it. And I don’t really think you could escape it in this place. By the time they test anyone it will be spread through this place like a rumor."
Notes for Day 88 (Four Years Later)
The Health Battle: I was still struggling with a likely COVID-19 infection and the lingering effects of a bad sciatic nerve. The reality of a viral spread in prison is terrifying; as I wrote then, it spreads "like a rumor" before the administration even begins testing.
The Lessig Connection: On the opposite side of this journal entry was my draft to Professor Lawrence Lessig. We had been corresponding after my trial, and though he was interested in the case, my attorney refused to contact him as a copyright expert. This failure of representation is an issue I am bringing forward in a future motion.
Genuine Advocacy: This draft proves my commitment to copyright reform wasn't a post-conviction "excuse". I was arguing for the "bettery of society" while sick in a bunk. These beliefs date back to before 2015, long before the legal system labeled me a criminal.
