Day 49 was full prison day, little did I know a simple poem sent to me by family member would give me inspiration to both thrive in jail and continue my fight for a better Copyright Law.

Journal Entry:

“No sleep until 1 or 2 AM, no dreams, sucky night. Up at 5:30 AM, not wanting to, but did breakfast.

BREAKFAST: ‘Break-your-teeth’ hard cereal, only slightly nasty blueberry cake, apple in reserve.

Watched the morning news till 7:20. Bitchange is hovering right around $45K. Not bad, but not good. I want to see it skyrocket while I’m in here. Went back to bed and slept till 9 AM. Now working on this journal and going to do Outer Justice, maybe wrap up Walking Distance. Rainy, but supposed to turn hot. The letter Pinnie sent me had a super-cool poem by S.K. in it:

We Did Not Ask For This Room, by Stephen King (Maybe).

(Full Poem will appear here, Permission Pending. See Updated Notes below for more Info.)

Personally, I love that poem. I wonder what book, if any, does it come from. I am thinking about sending her mine (Shadows). We’ll see. Got to get the sketch copied, then decide.

LUNCH: Chicken Nuggets, roll, white rice, salad, some of a type of creamed bean thing. Bread Pudding (maybe). My first time bringing my own hot sauce to lunch, because everyone else does. Peer Pressure. Made quite a good chicken nugget sandwich for reserve. Ate most of the rest.

Worked on PJ, Outer Justice, hung out with E., gave him some book format pointers. Chilled till short line time. Did quite a bit of law library research, trying to find that one magic bullet that will get me out of here. If something would break with that other case, I just believe I’m the only one who can see it. Well, Mom can, but just because she believes in me, and maybe T., hard to say, really. H., definitely knows; she saw and called it before I did, way back in 2015, but she’s on Team DOJ now and has been for two years. So she’s out. Even S.F. acted a little sketchy the last time I saw her. Who knows? I am confident I would win a straight fair use/orphan works copyright appeal, but that could be a decade in the future. I want some kind of fast-track release. Somehow.

SUPPER: That kind of gross big sausage thing, but it’s okay, but I think it has pork in it. A number of the guys gave up their trays to others in a Hunger Strike-style way. Weird. J.K. said he knew what was going on. I’ll have to ask him what he meant.

Debating going out for recreation. No laps, because my leg feels like it peels off a layer of skin with every step I take. And the next couple of days are going to get hotter. I might just go hang out with the White Supremacy Guys + H.I. Ended up talking to J.K. outside from 6 to 7, mostly about flea markets, pawn shops, and fairs. He has a lot of stories and an encyclopedic mind of sports, movies, and history. Pretty sharp for being seventy-something years old.”

Notes for Day 49 (Four Years Later)

In my original handwritten journal in a prison notebook, I included the entire poem. And since I have learned it may or may not have been written by author Stephen King, I have held off printing the entire work here in my blog.

Apparently, it was included at the end of the streaming miniseries 11/22/63 and spoken by an actor; it does not appear in the original book by Stephen King nor does it appear in any copyrighted printed work that I could find.

I am going to pursue obtaining permission for this work that my reasonable search has so far determined to be an “Orphan Work” before fair-using this full short poem in my non-commercial blog.

I am starting with Mr. King as the work has been credited to him on several unofficial websites and forums.

Since my criminal case and now my life story is heavily entwined with the “Fair Use of Orphan Works,” I will keep pursuing this issue and updating all developments here.
