Actual Journal Entry:

“Took Wellbutrin last night, laid awake for a short while but not all night like the SHU. Feeling OK, but I think it takes several days to build up in your system. Was up around 4 or 5 AM. Should have commissary tomorrow including a new notebook/Journal.

BREAKFAST: Ate it again. Some cereal, some cake; it seemed to be some sort of banana-flavored. Might be my last breakfast, though I do like the fruit. We’ll see.

Didn’t do much (my general job at the camp). Finished the If It Bleeds Holly story. It was better than The Outsider, in my opinion. Got one more story in the book: RAT.

LUNCH: Turkeyburgers, tater tots, water. Took the oranges. Not much happening in the afternoon; I may work on Walking Distance.

SUPPER: Taco stuff (Nachos, really), leftovers in soup form. Not great, but not horrible. Did two laps; got to beat it tomorrow. Could have tonight, but I was outside talking to R.Y. / H.I. (Both are leaving our Camp Paradise soon). Really nice night here at Camp Devens. Commissary tomorrow, hopefully a new journal and other stuff. Weird to be excited about blank notebooks. You can tell where my focus is. Took a Wellbutrin before bed.”

Notes for Day 36 (Four Years Later)

A pretty short, non-eventful early day at Camp. This entry reminded me of the medicine/pill situation. At the Camp, medicines were done a little differently. Whereas at the SHU, the medicine giver had to come to your SHU door and give it to you twice a day (but those times were extremely variable or not at all), at the Camp, we (anybody who took meds) lined up at night outside the nurses’ station. It was a more regular schedule, like at 6 or 7 PM, but still only once a day. And if you took a medication that kept you up or awake, yes, it’s going to affect your sleep. Luckily, I had the newfound ability to half-swallow my pills. But anyway, you do what you have to do to survive in a broken system.

My two new ‘friends’ RY and HI were both very interesting people. RY did leave shortly after I got to the Camp. I was kind of sad to see him go; he was very funny and always pranking everybody, except never me or HI. I’m not sure why he left me alone, but HI was a monster of a man. Size-wise, but he was very chill, and everyone in the Camp went out of their way not to make him angry. He ended up being one of my best friends, and I don’t know why I said he was leaving soon in the original entry. While he had been in for a long time, he was still there when I left in late 2023. In fact, he is one of the ones I was hustling to get motions in the mail for because it was an injustice that he was still there. I was very motivated to get him home. He was released eventually, but I don’t think any of my motions or legal wrangling was responsible. But I sure was happy he got out of that
