Actual Journal Entry:
“Awake at 3 AM, mostly because it was freezing cold. There are two gigantic fans pointing right at my CubiCell. I like the fresh air and the white noise (one of the reasons I am sleeping so well). Must try and score a blanket today and fix my phone, email. Skipping breakfast, just do writing. I wish there was a class schedule somewhere in the library. It’s the best place I’ve found for me to write (so far).
LUNCH: Chicken, Potato, bread pudding (?). Can’t remember the rest; my mind is still fried from the transfer and adjusting to life at Camp. It’s a lot to take in. Got to whip myself into shape.
SUPPER: Grilled Chicken on Salad, beets, some type of pudding and/or sauce. Undetermined. A lot of the food here is like that. Not as bad as the SHU, but definitely appears to be ‘thrown together’ with leftovers. Went outside after 4 PM till 7 PM. Did not walk. Leg still bad.”
Notes for Day 30 (Four Years Later)
Another really short entry, which is actually more like one of my "real world journal" entries—about the same length. I mostly use my journals to document story and/or business ideas. But in the SHU, I had plenty of time to reflect and record those reflections.
Ahhh, the Fans. Okay, there were these massive, high-powered fans attached high on the walls, and they caused much contention because: A) They were movable if you could reach them, and B) Most of them had on and off switches. They provided much-needed air circulation in a room full of inmates. I was placed in the ‘cold’ spot because it was one of the few CubiCells with a power wall socket, which I needed for my C-Leg. Everyone else in my row kept moving the fans to keep the cold off them. Both were pointed at me. I loved it for the reasons I mentioned in the entry. Except by 3 AM, it was downright frigid underneath those fans. Until I got a blanket, and then I was back in slumber-time bliss. I never slept better my entire time of incarceration than under those fans. Of course, it wouldn’t last, but that’s coming in future entries.
