NULL: The Great God War was born here in a Federal Prison Solitary Confinement
NULL: The Great God War was born here in a Federal Prison Solitary Confinement

Actual Journal Entry:

“A little sleep, off and on-ish. Skipped breakfast again. A little hungry, but I feel better. Think I’ll write Mom and T. today, probably the last one because I’m just about out of stamps, and we missed commissary this week. ‘E’s fault; never listen to other inmates. My fault too, I guess; I should have bought more. Looks like a nice day outside; the radio says it’s hot. Wouldn’t know; it’s always sub-zero here in the SHU. I don’t mind. Null Ideas/scenes are coming fast and furious. I think I’m starting to jot them down. It’s kind of weird; I never knew where the series would go after The Great God War (tentative title), but these are the only ideas I’m getting now. Also, I’m messing with the idea of turning the lower part of the Citadel into a massive prison—a personal prison of Jakob’s Father. It contains many of his enemies, and he has quite a few. The defeated ones are kept there because they still have value. Who knows? The idea might be a product of my current living situation. Null has become my default project when I can’t write on anything else. I can always work on Null because most of it only exists in my head anyway*.

Kind of a strange day at the SHU. I was briefly reunited with my leg for a photo shoot (Don’t ask!). But at least I know it’s now in the building. Also got big-time swabbed. Not a pleasant experience, but One. Step. Closer. ‘E’ is still here. He is pissed: 22 days for him.

LUNCH: Some kind of Turkey Burger Sandwich with huge tater tots. It was edible.

SUPPER: Was a funky Chef Salad. It was okay.

I expect to go to the camp by the weekend, hopefully. A little anxious, but not much. One of the reasons I came here (besides being ordered by the Judge) was to write, write, write. I want to exit this place with enough new material to start publishing and making again, and keep doing it for the rest of my life.”

Notes for Day 15 (Four Years Later)

A few things to mention about this entry: That was the first time I had ever been truly swabbed for COVID, where they take that long Q-Tip and shove it so far up your nose it feels like it pierces your brain and makes your eyes water and sting. Unfortunately, it wasn’t the last time.

I also started formally formatting the Menu section, a practice I continued throughout my entire run in all the prisons I “visited.” Hey, when you have nothing else to talk about, you always have food. (Most of the time.)

Lastly, *NULL. This was a writing project I had been working on since 2018. What makes it unique wasn't just the genre—it’s kind of a mix of sci-fi, epic fantasy, and superheroes—but the heroes I created myself. I’m not writing a derivative work of the Marvel/DC brand. However, it is related to my criminal copyright case in this way: I’ve had insomnia on a regular basis my entire life. But I really struggled with sleep as the years dragged by with the investigation and no progress, except threats to PLEAD GUILTY. By 2018, I started making myself sleep at night by writing a story in my head. It was about a boy/young man named Jakob who had massive, unknown, uncontrolled superpowers. His father, a very powerful, mysterious man, placed him in another place, hidden from our own universe—a special zone called the NULL. Think the Phantom Zone from Superman mythos or the Negative Zone from the Fantastic Four.

There is nothing in the NULL, just an endless darkness, no worlds, no suns, no stars. But there is something called the Citadel, a massive alien structure planted in a large rock. In fact, it looks like it was ripped out of the ground from somewhere. The Citadel just floats in the NULL. I kept writing this story to be able to forget the United States Government and their threatening ways, and to be able to fall asleep every night. I kept adding other characters, storylines, etc., and kept it all in my head. And it worked. I fell asleep many, many nights this way.

The kicker is, I never wrote any of it down until I got to the SHU in 2021. My entire prison stay, I filled a couple of notebooks with NULL plotlines, stories, and even some sketches. So I’m going to keep working on it because it’s a fun project, and if I ever do publish or create a finished product from NULL, I’ll be sure to give the Federal Government co-creator credit.
