Important Day concerning PACER, FOIA and the glimmer of hope in many inmates eyes: Compassionate Release.
Important Day concerning PACER, FOIA and the glimmer of hope in many inmates eyes: Compassionate Release.

Original Entry: October 6, 2021

Slept medium, up at 6:22 AM. Sent an email to MyPO that looked like it was promptly rejected.

PRISON REFORM IDEA: Why can’t we have PACER access?

I’m toy-ing with the FOIA/Privacy Act for DHS, DOJ, Brewer Police Dept, and Maine State Police. Maybe write a letter requesting the form first ... Maine Attorney General / FBI. Start with Homeland Security.

SUPPER: Gross Nachos, but was able to eat a little. Hamburger-like meat had too many onions. Sour wild strawberry soup which I took the carrots out of. Got my CR (Compassionate Release) denial today; will appeal as soon as I know how.

Four Years Later: The Day the Mission Changed (2026)

Looking back, Day 106 seems lackluster on paper, but it was the day I planted three major "seeds" that would define the next four years:

  1. The PACER Wall: I quickly learned why PACER (real-time court documents) is banned for inmates: The Rat Factor. Access to everyone's case files makes it too easy to find who is cooperating. It’s a self-created hell that makes it nearly impossible to be Pro Se (representing yourself), but it forced me to find creative workarounds.

  2. The FOIA Weapon: This was my first mention of the Freedom of Information Act. I wish I’d known about this in 2015. Since this day, I’ve filed hundreds of requests. I haven't stopped, and I don't plan to.

  3. The Warden’s Nudge: When my Compassionate Release was denied, a woman from the Warden’s office handed me the paper. She looked around to make sure no one was listening and whispered, "Now you can take it to the Court, you know that right?" That spoke volumes. The system knew it was bloated, and that one question gave me the green light to fight.
