Journal Entry:
"Slept in for me, awake at 7:30, H/L, Dose, worked out. Dreamed like crazy, but now at 8:30 in common room on new journal day, there is no recall, except realizing I was drinking a lot of chocolate milk. A lot of it is right there, but can’t grasp it.
Fingers crossed we get computers/phones today, if not I dive into the law library. Continue my full research and start researching local color. Looks like we got everything back. That was a whole lot of nothing. The line for both the phones and computers is overwhelming, and it reboots every 15 min. I’ll lay chill, till I walk by and see an empty monitor. I am interested in tackling that list though. Can’t add to it until I get some stuff off it.
LUNCH: Fish Friday, I took the beans, MAC (which wasn’t bad for a change), Green beans (Ate All), two pieces of cornbread.
Wrote quite a bit on Blood... sun this morning pretty solid start, I want to make it as real as I can before I get into the whole vamp/mummy thing, really set the stage, with the characters reacting like it would be really, if that shit was right in front of you. Kind of like a revenge-kill the monster-space epic prelude. ('Cause that's what it is, and may return to Null someday). Flesh out the characters really good.
SUPPER: Lasagna, which was very good, I ate half and glued half for reserve, Spinach (Ate All, regardless of Mom’s warning, hopefully I won’t pay later) (the combo with coffee could spell trouble which rhymes with Kidney stones). Roll which also went into reserve.
You're in my Seat: Hercules: The Thracian (SP?) War"
Notes for Day 101 (Four Years Later)
The Archive of the First 100: Starting the new journal felt like a reset. The cover page list was my mental map for what would eventually become the Shadows book. Even if I didn't include everything, keeping that "Work in Progress" list was how I maintained my identity as a writer while the BOP tried to reduce me to a number.
The Punishment Paradigm: When they wanted to punish us for the strike, they knew exactly what to take: communication with the outside world. While most of us participated passively, Tito was the only one who truly stood his ground and paid the highest price. The "whole lot of nothing" I felt after getting privileges back was the realization of how fragile our connection to the world was.
The Legal Hunger: I was anxious to get back into the law library and resume contact with the outside. I was one of the few inmates actually using those resources for a legal fight rather than just pass-through entertainment.
Grounding the Sci-Fi: My work on Blood on the Sun was about making the impossible feel "real". I wanted the characters to react to a space-vampire epic as if it were actually happening in front of them. This focus on "grounded" storytelling was my way of staying anchored to my craft as a filmmaker.
